Description of Garden City Chapel & Retreat
Garden City Chapel and Retreat is in Garden City Beach, South Carolina, just seven miles south of Myrtle Beach. Ten thousand youth and adults attend annually from 22 states and thousands of children from children's homes have spent time at Garden City Chapel and Retreat and have experienced the love of God and the Chapel family. In 2022, the Chapel will be celebrating its 70th anniversary!
Facilities include 11 dormitories with 568 beds, a large outdoor pool, snack bar, meeting hall, fellowship hall (seats 350) and the chapel complex which includes large (seats 900) and small (seats 200) chapels. Outdoor areas include a volleyball sand court, basketball courts and an area for group games and activities such as football, soccer, frisbee and water games. Garden City Chapel and Retreat strives to provide a clean, safe, friendly and useful environment for guests to have a spiritual retreat.
Executive Director Job Description
This person will be responsible for every facet of the ministries:
- Chapel-operates May through Labor Day
- Retreat-operates year-round
- Children's Homes-we welcome 10-13 homes each year
ALL staff will report to the Executive Director while this position reports to the Board of Trustees. Leading, recruiting and managing a spiritual nourishment plan for the staff is vital. It is preferred that this person and family live on campus and be PASSIONATE about the ministries and its people. Because of working with community leaders, entrepreneurs and trustees, he/she must be able to work with and bring new ideas regarding fundraising.
The Executive Director of Garden City Chapel and Retreat ministries must be "called." This person must love Christ with all his/her heart and be a prayer warrior. He/She will have God first in his/her life and will love children, teenagers, youth workers and those young at heart. Being able to take individuals through the plan of salvation will be vital. While serving others, the Executive Director will do whatever it takes no matter the hours to get the job done, because he/she is PASSIONATE about Garden City Chapel and Retreat!
The Executive Director must be an organizer, visionary, "tech savvy" and work as a project manager. As an organizer, he/she must remain focused, know how to weigh & balance priorities and be detailed oriented. The leader who is a visionary will be able to see where the Chapel and Retreat ministries are lacking and with new ideas, where it can change and grow. A visionary will be a motivator, risk-taker, inspirer, innovator, energizer and an influencer. With social media (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and YouTube), tv, radio, print ads, etc. available, the leader must know how to use technology to increase awareness of the Chapel. The Executive Director should be well-versed in the most up to date technology necessary for daily operations.
Compensation
Salary and benefits are negotiable. Health and retirement benefits are included.
